Basketball Game Preview: Highland Huskies vs. Bennett Tigers

The Highland Huskies just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Bennett Tigers at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Highland has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with three straight defeats, while Bennett will come in with nine straight wins.

Highland is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Resurrection Christian on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Highland was beaten by Resurrection Christian 69-41. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while the Cougars are ranked fifth).

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Bennett duked it out with Lake County on Wednesday. Bennett took down Lake County 75-61.

Bennett's win came from a few key players Highland will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Owen Stiers, who went 9-for-20 on his way to 26 points and three steals. The game was his sixth in a row with at least 18 points. Jayden Ivory was another key player, going 6-for-8 en route to 12 points and four steals.

Highland's loss dropped their record down to 14-4. As for Bennett, they pushed their record up to 16-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Everything came up roses for Highland against Bennett in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as the team secured a 70-41 win. Does Highland have another victory up their sleeve, or will Bennett turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
