Softball Recap: Sierra Vista Wins Going Away Against Azusa

Sierra Vista won the last time they faced Azusa and things went their way on Thursday too. Sierra Vista put the hurt on Azusa with a sharp 9-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Dons, who have now won three matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Isabella Ortega spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Joey Romero was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Emilee Rivera was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Sierra Vista is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 9.8 hits in those games compared to only 4.4 in the others. Azusa is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sierra Vista will venture away from home to challenge Ramona Convent at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
