Basketball Recap: Brunswick Beats Evans for Their Sixth Straight Victory

Brunswick came tearing into Thursday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.6 points), and they left with even more momentum. They came within five points of losing the streak, but they secured a 64-59 W against the Evans Knights. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Pirates also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2024.

Brunswick was led to victory by Samyya Gilbert and Patrice Mungin. Gilbert went 8-for-11 on her way to 19 points and eight rebounds, while Mungin went 8-for-19 en route to 21 points and five steals. Gilbert is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Reagan Hicks, who posted ten points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Brunswick smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 29 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Evans saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Chabria Tate almost dropped a double-double with 38 points and nine boards. That was a full 64.4% of Evans' points, marking the fourth time in a row Tate has put up more than a third of the team's points.

Brunswick's record now sits at 20-6. As for Evans, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 9-1 and their overall record down to 23-3.

Brunswick wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 65-41 loss against Bradwell Institute on the 14th. As for Evans, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 60-47 win against Glynn Academy on the 14th.
