Baseball Recap: Santa Fe South Drops Season-High Score on Del City

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Santa Fe South). Everything went their way against the Del City Eagles on Friday as Santa Fe South made off with a 15-3 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Saints needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Juan Dominguez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over 4.1 innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Javier Duran was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Drew Cabrera was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Santa Fe South hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive matches.

Santa Fe South's victory bumped their record up to 2-14. As for Del City, their defeat was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-14.

Santa Fe South and Del City could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Oklahoma Rankings. Santa Fe South will challenge Duncan at 5:00 p.m. on Monday down 260 places (299 vs. 39). Meanwhile, Del City (ranked 308th) will meet Carl Albert (ranked 45th) at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
