The Dalton Bulldogs will square off against the Wooster Generals at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Dalton has three straight victories, Wooster has eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
While Dalton's win against Northwestern wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bulldogs had just enough and edged out the Huskies 9-8 on Wednesday.
Skylar Fletcher made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Fletcher was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lily Teague, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Arabella Wenger, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Dalton hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Wooster fell victim to Lexington and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 10-0 to the Minutemen, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Ella Karger was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
Dalton's victory bumped their record up to 10-5. As for Wooster, their loss dropped their record down to 2-14.
Wooster's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Dalton has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12 hits per game. It's a different story for Wooster, though, as they've been averaging 10.1 hits. Given Dalton's sizable advantage in that area, the Generals will need to find a way to close that gap.
Dalton beat Wooster 11-8 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Generals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
