Baseball Recap: Onaga Starts Season with Win at Home

Onaga gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Jackson Heights Cobras. The victory continues a trend for the Buffaloes in their matchups with the Cobras: they've now won six in a row.

Jackson Kolterman was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out 11 batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Casen Hutfles was incredible, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cameron Kramer, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Onaga always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jackson Heights only posted an OBP of .364.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Onaga beat Jackson Heights by a score of 10-7 later that day.
