Watch highlights from the Maverick All-American at the National High School Invitational.

Archbishop McCarthy has won seven Florida state titles in the past eight years, including the last three years in a row. Joe Perez has been a big part of those last three titles.

In helping the Mavericks go 29-2 this year and win the Class 6A state title, Perez was stellar both on the mound and at the plate. He posted a 4-0 pitching record and boasted a fastball that reached over 95 mph. At the plate, Perez batted .526 with a team-best nine home runs.

Perez earned Class 6A State Player of the Year honors by the Florida Dairy Farmers and was also honored by the Sun Sentinel as the Broward County 6A-1A Player of the Year. He capped off his senior season by being drafted with the No. 53 overall pick in the Major League Baseball Draft by the Houston Astros.

For his performance this year, Perez has been selected as the MaxPreps Medium Schools National Player of the Year.
