Basketball Game Preview: Starkville Yellowjackets vs. Tupelo Golden Wave

The Starkville Yellowjackets will challenge the Tupelo Golden Wave at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Last Tuesday, Starkville got the win against Germantown by a conclusive 56-34. Given the Yellowjackets' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked sixth, while the Mavericks are ranked 45th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Tupelo came tearing into Tuesday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victor by a 57-35 margin over the Arrows.

Starkville has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.5 points per game. As for Tupelo, they pushed their record up to 25-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Starkville came up short against Tupelo when the teams last played on Friday, falling 64-54. Can Starkville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
