Football Recap: Millard North Finds Playoff Glory Versus Omaha North

With a playoff win on the line, Millard North rose to the challenge on Friday. They pulled ahead with a 30-29 photo finish over the Omaha North Vikings. For the Mustangs, this counts as revenge for the 37-14 win the Vikings walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2017.

It was another big night for Isaiah Traylor, who rushed for 109 yards and one touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Millard North was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 271 rushing yards. They are 4-2 when they've run for more than 200 yards.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Millard North, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Kaden Craig, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

When it comes to explaining why Omaha North lost, don't look at Jaron Cannon. Despite the final result, he rushed for 196 yards and one TD while picking up 9.8 yards per carry. Cannon was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 56 yards. Another player making a difference was Dominic Yancy, who threw for 64 yards and three touchdowns.

Millard North is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to yards per carry: they averaged an imposing 5.2 yards per carry in those games compared to only 0.48 in the others. As for Omaha North, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-4.

Coming up, Millard North will head out on the road to square off against Papillion-LaVista South at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs' defense better be ready for this one: the Titans have averaged an impressive 45.3 points per game this season. Omaha North does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
