Soccer Game Preview: Piedmont vs. Urban

The Piedmont Highlanders will take on the Urban Blues at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Piedmont is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. Their defense stepped up to hand Justin-Siena a 2-0 shutout. Given the Highlanders' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 378th, while the Braves are ranked 1100th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bosco Lorin and Jacques Saldanha scored both of Piedmont's goals, bringing their combined season tally to nine goals.

Meanwhile, Urban sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over Petaluma on Wednesday. That's two games straight that the Blues have won by just one goal.

Urban is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those four games. The win got Piedmont back to even at 8-8.
