Basketball Game Preview: Canyon Cougars vs. Steele Knights

Canyon is 0-10 against Steele since February of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. The Canyon Cougars will host the Steele Knights at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Canyon is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Friday. They lost to Judson on the road by a 70-56 margin. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 537th, while the Rockets are ranked 203rd).

Meanwhile, Steele waltzed into their match on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Rattlers by a score of 80-69. The score was all tied up 0-0 at the break, but the Knights were the better team in the second half.

Canyon's loss dropped their record down to 11-16. As for Steele, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-2.

Canyon came up short against Steele when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 65-61. Thankfully for Canyon, Matai Edgecombe (who went 7 of 9 on his way to 15 points along with six boards and three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
