Basketball Recap: Minerva Comes Up Short

If Minerva was riding high fresh off their 56-12 takedown of Alliance last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Minerva Lions came up short against the John F. Kennedy Catholic Eagles on Monday, falling 68-42. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while the Eagles are ranked tenth).

Leading John F. Kennedy Catholic to victory were Didi Ryan and Gianna Pompelia. Ryan dropped a triple-double on 15 points, ten rebounds, and ten steals, while Pompelia went 8 of 13 on her way to 24 points and five steals. The matchup was Ryan's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aniyah Johnson, who posted ten points.

Minerva's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for John F. Kennedy Catholic, the win keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Minerva will challenge Carrollton at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Carrollton's defense has only allowed 29 points per game this season, so Minerva's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for John F. Kennedy Catholic, they will face off against Lake Center Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in John F. Kennedy Catholic's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games.
