Softball Preview: University Hawks vs. Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers
University has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. University is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
University is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Greenbrier East, who was ranked 12th in their home state at the time (University was ranked 15th). University walked away with a 10-7 victory over Greenbrier East on Saturday. University's win was all the more impressive since Greenbrier East was averaging only 3.5 runs allowed on the season.
Olivia Masoner was excellent, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and a double. Ashlyn Weaver was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Buckhannon-Upshur can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over East Fairmont.
Kailey Hart was excellent, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Abel, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with a stolen base.
