Softball Recap: Brownsburg Comes Up Short

Friday just wasn't the day for Brownsburg's offense. They fell just short of the Hamilton Southeastern Royals by a score of 1-0 on Friday. Bulldogs fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Royals since on Friday.

Etta Schroering was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed eight innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Brownsburg saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Izzy Neal, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases. Neal is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last 14 games she's played.

This is the second loss in a row for Brownsburg and nudges their season record down to 12-8. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only one runs. As for Hamilton Southeastern, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-6.

Brownsburg and Hamilton Southeastern should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Bulldogs (ranked 21st) will meet Lawrence North (ranked 136th) at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Hamilton Southeastern will face off against Anderson at 5:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (16 vs. 232).
