Softball Recap: Tunstall Trojans vs. Franklin County Eagles

Tunstall suffered their closest loss since May 15, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the Franklin County Eagles by a score of 7-5. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2019.

Kinslee Cassell was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Cassell was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Harper Lovelace made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

This is the second loss in a row for Tunstall and nudges their season record down to 5-2. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for Franklin County, they pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Tunstall will welcome Staunton River at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Franklin County, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Liberty at 8:00 p.m.
