Softball Recap: Westwood Comes Up Short

Westwood fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Hopkinton on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Hillers by a score of 4-2. The Wolverines have struggled against the Hillers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Bridget Mulkeen spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Sasha Marino made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Westwood's loss dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Hopkinton, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-3.

Westwood didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 15-2 victory against Norwood on the 19th. As for Hopkinton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 12-0 win against Medfield on the 16th.
