Basketball Game Preview: Newman Smith Trojans vs. The Colony Cougars

Newman Smith hasn't had much luck against The Colony recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Newman Smith Trojans will be playing in front of their home fans against The Colony Cougars at 6:00 p.m.

Newman Smith is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Tuesday. They were dealt a 66-39 defeat at the hands of Wakeland. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 341st, while the Wolverines are ranked 30th).

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when The Colony faced off against Reedy on Tuesday. The Colony managed a 43-39 victory over Reedy.

The Colony pushed their record up to 14-13 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.3 points per game. As for Newman Smith, their loss dropped their record down to 12-9.

Things could have been worse for Newman Smith, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 41-24 loss to The Colony when the teams last played back in December of 2024.
