Football Recap: Sussex County Tech Takes a Loss

Sussex County Tech was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 14-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Wallkill Valley Rangers. Sussex County Tech was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Wallkill Valley apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Despite the loss, Sussex County Tech still got an impressive performance from Gavin Mericle, who rushed for 100 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 47 receiving yards.

Wallkill Valley's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Scottie Weiss, who rushed for 85 yards and one TD. Luke Bolich did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 81 receiving yards.

Sussex County Tech's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Wallkill Valley, their record is now 3-1.

Coming up, Sussex County Tech will look to defend their home field on Friday against Hopatcong at 7:00 p.m. As for Wallkill Valley, they are taking a road trip to challenge Kittatinny Regional at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars' defense has only allowed 13.8 points per game this season, so the Rangers' offense will have their work cut out for them.
