Basketball Recap: Weatherford Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

On Saturday, the Weatherford Eagles didn't have too much breathing room in their match against the Booker T. Washington Hornets, but they still walked away with a 61-57 victory. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked first, while the Hornets are ranked 59th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Booker T. Washington's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isaac Sanders, who went 7 of 11 on his way to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Barron Harris Jr., who posted 13 points.

Weatherford's win bumped their record up to 12-1. As for Booker T. Washington, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-5 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Weatherford will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Clinton at 8:00 p.m. on January 7th. Booker T. Washington also won't see the court for a while: their next contest is against Shawnee at 7:30 p.m. on January 7th. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Shawnee has won three straight at home, while Booker T. Washington won ten straight on the road dating back to last season), something that'll have to change.
