Softball Game Preview: Live Oak Acorns vs. Del Mar Dons

The Live Oak Acorns will venture away from home to take on the Del Mar Dons at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Live Oak is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.

Live Oak was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Oak Grove on Wednesday. Live Oak put the hurt on Oak Grove with a sharp 12-1 win. While the Acorns didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

The team relied heavily on Ava Chapman, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Brooke Frausto also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Chapman wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Live Oak kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oak Grove only managed three hits.

Meanwhile, Del Mar was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell 10-6 to Lincoln.

Niarah Aimonetti made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Maren Woodfill was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Live Oak's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Del Mar, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

Del Mar's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Live Oak hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .402.
