The West Rebels will challenge the Campbell County Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (West has three straight wins, Campbell County has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
West will bounce into Monday's contest after beating Knoxville Central, who they had gone 1-7 against in their eight prior meetings. The Rebels blew past the Bobcats 9-1 on Thursday.
Brooke Weaver made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Weaver was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.
In other batting news, Joli Bush and Claire Davenport did most of the damage at the plate: Bush went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs, while Davenport went 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Bush has posted over her last 12 matchups. Brooklyn Burnett was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They are 8-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Campbell County came up short against Montgomery County on Saturday, falling 14-1.
Campbell County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jenna Pinkston, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.
Campbell County's defeat dropped their record down to 3-13. As for West, their victory bumped their record up to 11-9.
West's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's game. The Rebels have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Campbell County, though, as they've been averaging only 0.9 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will West continue to outrun the ball?
West got the 'W' in their previous meeting last Thursday against Campbell County by a conclusive 15-0 score. Do the Rebels have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
