The Waterloo Cougars will square off against the Hatton Hornets at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Waterloo's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Hatton's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
It was a proper cat-fight when Waterloo took on Belmont on Tuesday. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Cardinals. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won 11 games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Georgiana Kavich was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sarah Allen, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Maddie Morris also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hatton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with a 5-1 win over Deshler on Thursday. The Hornets haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Brianna Oliver spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Morgan Lane was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
With the win, Waterloo broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 21-9. As for Hatton, their record now sits at 14-22-2.
Waterloo might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from Hatton in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
