Football Recap: Thomas Stargell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Richmond over South Dearborn

The Richmond Red Devils came up short against the South Dearborn Knights on Friday and fell 35-28. While the Red Devils had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Knights 14-0.

Richmond's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Thomas Stargell, who threw for 176 yards and one TD, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground.

Richmond didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Jai Allen and Tyziyah Stubbs, who each picked up one interception apiece.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South Dearborn to victory, but perhaps none more so than Griffin Sturgeon, who threw for 277 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.6 yards per attempt. The Knights' leading receiver Wyatt Adams was Sturgeon's top target yet again, picking up 97 receiving yards and one score.

Richmond's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for South Dearborn, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.

Richmond has already played their next contest, a 64-6 loss against Lafayette Jefferson on the 19th. As for South Dearborn, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 39-16 win against Greensburg on the 19th.
