Basketball Game Preview: Viewmont Vikings vs. Northridge Knights

Two dominant forwards in Mara Mickelson and Karlee Mayfield are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Viewmont Vikings will challenge the Northridge Knights at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Viewmont is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.3 points per game this season.

Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Viewmont beat Woods Cross 50-44. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Vikings.

Viewmont got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Mickelson out in front who went 7 for 14 on her way to 19 points. Mary Carr was another key player, putting up eight points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Northridge had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They managed a 40-35 win over Box Elder on Friday. The score was all tied up 16-16 at the break, but the Knights were the better team in the second half.

Viewmont is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.4 points per game. As for Northridge, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 6-7.

Viewmont came up short against Northridge in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 49-45. Can Viewmont avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
