Preview: Marcellus Mustangs vs. Utica Academy of Science Atoms
Marcellus has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Utica Academy of Science Atoms at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. Hopefully Marcellus is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Utica Academy of Science in New York (Marcellus is ranked 18th, while Utica Academy of Science is ranked 512th).
Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Marcellus beat Syracuse Academy of Science 54-48.
Tucker Burnett and Will Burnett were among the main playmakers for Marcellus as the former scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and the latter scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Meyer, who scored six points.
Utica Academy of Science can finally bid farewell to their nine-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game last Saturday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 88-58 victory over Edison Tech. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Utica Academy of Science has managed all season.
It was another big night for Doneilious King j.r, who scored 47 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Akol Machteng was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
Marcellus' win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-1. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 29.36 points. Utica Academy of Science's record is now 1-8.
Marcellus might still be hurting after the 53-32 loss they got from Utica Academy of Science when the teams last played back in January of 2018. Can Marcellus avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
