The Williston Red Devils will face off against the Belleview Rattlers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Williston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Williston lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Bell, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's matchup. The Red Devils were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Bulldogs on Friday. The game was the first time the Red Devils have beaten the Bulldogs on their field since April 3, 2023.
Aiden Phillips made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Phillips was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
In other pitching news, Eli Kennedy looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Colby Jansen, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamarien Wilcox, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.
Gainesville hit Belleview with a five-run first inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Rattlers fell just short of the Hurricanes by a score of 6-4. The Rattlers have struggled against the Hurricanes recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Gilbehert Mendoza made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles. Those doubles marked the first that he has hit this season.
Williston's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Belleview, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
Everything went Williston's way against Belleview when the teams last played back in March of 2019, as Williston made off with a 7-1 victory. Do the Red Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rattlers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
