Volleyball Recap: New Hanover Wildcats vs. Laney Buccaneers

New Hanover was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Laney Buccaneers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Buccaneers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in September.

New Hanover started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 20-25, 25-23, 25-12, 25-11.

Maille Smith paced New Hanover's offense, picking up nine kills. Smith really made an impact as she also led the team in assists with 16. She was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.

Among those leading the charge was Abigail (Abbey) Hendren, who had 21 assists and six digs. Grace Tantilla also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

New Hanover's defeat dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Laney, they moved to 7-11 with that win, which also ended their three-match losing streak.
