West Wilkes fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Wilkes Central on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took an 81-75 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wilkes Central Eagles. One positive for the Blackhawks, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Wilkes Central's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ayden Barrett, who posted 11 points and seven rebounds. Brady Scott was another key player, going 6 of 15 on his way to 15 points.

West Wilkes has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for Wilkes Central, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 7-6.

West Wilkes will host North Wilkes at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Wilkes has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Wilkes Central, they will head out to challenge East Surry at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. East Surry knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Wilkes Central likes a good challenge.
