Softball Recap: Clinton Wins Going Away Against Hartsburg-Emden

Clinton had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Hartsburg-Emden on Tuesday. The Maroons were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Stags. The Maroons not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 26th (when they won 11-1).

The team relied heavily on Riley Fentress, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Anelise Thompson, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Clinton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matches.

Clinton's win bumped their record up to 4-8. As for Hartsburg-Emden, they dropped their record down to 0-11 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Clinton will face off against Argenta-Oreana at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hartsburg-Emden, they will square off against Illini Bluffs at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
