Softball Recap: Lugoff-Elgin Extends Winning Streak to Four

Lugoff-Elgin came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They had just enough and edged out the Westwood Redhawks 10-8. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Demons also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Cassie Merriweather made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Merriweather was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Carley Bell was incredible, firing off two home runs and three RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jameson Keeter, who went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Lugoff-Elgin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive contests.

Lugoff-Elgin's record now sits at 7-11. As for Westwood, their loss dropped their record down to 6-13.

Lugoff-Elgin will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Redhawks: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
