Softball Recap: Rossville Takes a Loss

Rossville was the 11-1 winner over Tri-County when they last played one another back in May of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Hornets fell just short of the Cavaliers by a score of 7-6 on Thursday. Hornets fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Cavaliers since on Thursday.

Avery Layton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than 12 strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Addi Gorbett was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Allie Elliott was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs.

Rossville's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Tri-County, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Coming up, Rossville will venture away from home to square off against Frontier at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Hornets are facing the Falcons at the right time seeing as the Falcons are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Tri-County, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against North White at 5:30 p.m.
