Basketball Recap: Wellington-Napoleon Falls Despite Big Games from Jared Raymond and Jonny Hampton

Wellington-Napoleon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 52-48 heartbreaker at the hands of the Leeton Bulldogs. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Jonny Hampton and Jared Raymond certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Hampton posted 13 points and eight boards, while Raymond scored ten points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Trey Simsheuser, who had five points in addition to 11 boards and three steals.

Wellington-Napoleon's loss dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Leeton, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season.

Wellington-Napoleon has already played their next contest, an 83-37 defeat against Richmond on the 27th. As for Leeton, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Bunceton at 7:00 p.m. on February 5th.
