Basketball Recap: Brandon Valley Snaps Five-Game Streak of Wins at Home

If Brandon Valley was riding high fresh off their 61-11 takedown of Yankton last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Brandon Valley Lynx took a 77-73 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Marshall Tigers. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (61), the Lynx still had to take the loss.

Brandon Valley lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Gracie Salter, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 18 boards. Salter is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. Ava Kellenberger was another key player, going 7 for 12 en route to 17 points.

Even though they lost, Brandon Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Brandon Valley's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-2. As for Marshall, their victory was their 11th straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-1.

Brandon Valley and Marshall should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in their respective state rankings. Brandon Valley (ranked sixth) will meet Rapid City Central (ranked 127th) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Brandon Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Marshall will face off against St. Peter at 7:15 p.m. on Friday up 80 places (20 vs. 100).
