Football Recap: Wilson Hall's Punishing Run Game Keeps Rolling

With a playoff win on the line, Wilson Hall rose to the challenge on Friday. They blew past the Hilton Head Christian Academy Eagles 50-29. The result was nothing new for the Barons, who have now won eight matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.

Ben McLaurin produced another solid effort rushing for 276 yards and four scores while picking up 12.0 yards per carry. Those 276 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ford Wilder, who rushed for 108 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Wilson Hall was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 456 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 173 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Wilson Hall didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Peyton Gilley and McLaurin.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jackson Richardson, who picked up 71 receiving yards, and also rushed for 35 yards. Hudson Baker also helped with two TDs in total.

Wilson Hall's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.6 points over those games. As for Hilton Head Christian Academy, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 6-6 record.

Coming up, Wilson Hall will challenge Pinewood Prep at 7:30 p.m. on the 22nd. The Barons will need to watch out since the Panthers have now posted at least 31 points in their last four contests. Hilton Head Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
