Baseball Recap: Hamilton County Comes Up Short

Hamilton County dropped to 12-10 on Tuesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 8-2 to the Hawthorne Hornets. The Trojans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Hornets earlier this season, when they won 11-10.

Hamilton County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gaige Allen, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run. Ryan Moody also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As for Hawthorne, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games.

On Hawthorne's side, the team relied heavily on Caleb Jacobs, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Jacobs is becoming a predictor of the Hornets' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 10-1 (and 1-7 when he doesn't). Hunter Thomas was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Looking ahead, Hamilton County will welcome Wakulla Christian School at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Saints have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.12 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hawthorne, they will venture away from home to take on Williston at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
