Basketball Recap: Laney Strickland's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Notre Dame over Green

Notre Dame came up into this matchup off a tough 31-point defeat two weeks ago. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Green Bobcats by a score of 57-54 on Thursday. The Titans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bobcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Notre Dame's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Laney Strickland, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Brianne Hicks also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Even though they lost, Notre Dame was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Green found their leader in sophomore Abbie Knapp, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and 16 boards. That makes it four consecutive games in which Knapp has scored at least a third of Green's points. Matti Hayslip was another key player, putting up 12 points and five rebounds.

Notre Dame is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-4. As for Green, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 12-1.

Notre Dame didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 54-30 loss against Athens on the 18th. Green has also already played their next game (against Valley), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
