The Melrose Red Raiders will head out on the road to take on the Winchester Red & Black at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
Melrose kicked off their season on the road on Monday and hit a couple of potholes. They suffered a rough 18-0 loss at the hands of Belmont. The defeat means Melrose is still on the hunt for the season's first 'W'.
Winchester never got on the board in their matchup on Monday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Waltham last Friday. Everything went their way against the Hawks as they made off with a 17-4 win. The victory was some much needed relief for Winchester as it spelled an end to their eight-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Tessa Capodanno made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off three hits. Capodanno was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with five RBI, three doubles, and two runs.
In other batting news, Carys Gugliotta was incredible, going 5-for-5 with a home run, six RBI, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Ella Centurelli, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.
Everything went Melrose's way against Winchester in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 as Melrose made off with a 10-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Melrose since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
