Basketball Recap: Great Mills Hornets vs. Patuxent Panthers
The Great Mills Hornets had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They walked away with a 39-27 win over Patuxent. Given Great Mills' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 118th, while the Panthers are ranked 251st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for A'naija Bush, who scored 17 points along with eight steals and six rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last eight games she's played. Telisa Adams was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with ten rebounds and three steals.
Great Mills' win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.3 points per game. As for Patuxent, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.
Great Mills will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wolverines at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Patuxent, they will head out on the road to take on the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. La Plata has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 10.
