Basketball Game Preview: Cuthbertson Cavaliers vs. Weddington Warriors

Cuthbertson hasn't had much luck against Weddington recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Cuthbertson Cavaliers will challenge the Weddington Warriors at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Cuthbertson will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Porter Ridge, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Cuthbertson came out on top against Porter Ridge by a score of 60-49 on Tuesday. Given the Cavaliers' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 200th, while the Pirates are ranked 406th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Weddington waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They blew past the Spartans 70-45. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Warriors had established a 24 point advantage.

Weddington has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.3 points per game. As for Cuthbertson, their record now sits at 12-7.

Cuthbertson came up short against Weddington when the teams last played last Monday, falling 68-64. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Weddington's KJ Younger, who dropped a double-double on 38 points and 11 boards. Now that Cuthbertson knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
