Baseball Recap: Central of Clay County Find Success

Central of Clay County took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Benjamin Russell, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Central of Clay County Volunteers had just enough and edged out the Benjamin Russell Wildcats 3-2 on Friday. The game was the first time the Volunteers have beaten the Wildcats on their field since March 5, 2021.

JT Wilkerson was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only a hit over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Central of Clay County is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Wilkerson was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other pitching news, Ryder Waldrep looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Tyler Boyd, who went 2-for-4 with two triples, one run, and one RBI.

Central of Clay County's win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Benjamin Russell, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3.

Coming up, Central of Clay County will face off against Ranburne at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Benjamin Russell, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Wildcats take on the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
