Softball Recap: Griffith Triumphs

Griffith's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They never let the Hammond Morton Governors get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Governors: they've now won three in a row.

Hammond Morton's batters probably weren't too happy with Brylie Bridges, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 15 Ks (she gave up four walks). Bridges has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cheyanne Fant, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Victoria Nudo was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Griffith kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matchups.

Griffith's record is now 20-2. As for Hammond Morton, they moved to 11-5 with that defeat, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

Coincidentally, Griffith and Hammond Morton will both be playing Hammond Bishop Noll the next time they take the field. The Panthers will host the Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Governors will host them at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
