Baseball Game Preview: Estill County Engineers vs. Powell County Pirates

The Estill County Engineers are taking a road trip to challenge the Powell County Pirates at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Estill County's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Saturday's struggle, when Corbin hitters got past them. The Engineers lost 10-2 to the Redhounds on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Engineers have suffered since April 20, 2024.

Meanwhile, Powell County fell victim to George Rogers Clark and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Cardinals, falling 6-0. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Cardinals recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Powell County's loss dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Estill County, they moved to 9-6 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Powell County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Estill County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. It's a different story for Powell County, though, as they've only averaged .187. Will they be able to contain Estill County's hitters?

Estill County skirted past Powell County 7-6 in their previous matchup two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Engineers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
