Softball Recap: Make It Six in a Row for Williamston

Williamston had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.2 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Portland Raiders as they made off with a 16-2 win. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.

Jaiden Griffith was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Judit, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.

Williamston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .528. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.

Williamston pushed their record up to 11-4 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Portland, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Williamston will challenge Mason at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hornets are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Portland, they will venture away from home to challenge Lakewood at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.6 runs per game on average), something the Raiders will no doubt try to take advantage of.
