Football Recap: Bishop McDevitt Crusaders vs. Mount St. Joseph Gaels

Bishop McDevitt had to kick off their season on the road on Saturday, but they showed no ill effects. They breezed by the Mount St. Joseph Gaels on the road to the tune of 45-15. With the Crusaders ahead 31-7 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Bishop McDevitt had a senior duo take command as Stone Saunders threw for 269 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.2 yards per attempt and Dominic Diaz-Ellis picked up 170 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Diaz-Ellis' longest reception was for an incredible 82 yards. Dontavious Luckett made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Bishop McDevitt wouldn't let Mount St. Joseph keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Bishop McDevitt can thank Lucas Lawler and Luckett for forcing both of them.

Despite the loss, Mount St. Joseph still got an impressive performance from Benjamin Raines, who threw for 329 yards and a touchdown, and also rushed for 43 yards.

Bishop McDevitt will look to take advantage of their home-field for the first time this season as they take on Harrisburg at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Bishop McDevitt will be looking to keep their eight-game home win streak dating back to last season alive. As for Mount St. Joseph, they will take on St. Thomas Aquinas at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
