Softball Recap: Romeo Has No Trouble Against Chippewa Valley

Romeo won the last time they faced Chippewa Valley and things went their way on Monday too. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Big Reds. Considering the Bulldogs have won four games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Katie Murphy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ava Yaklin, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Julia Lentine, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

Yaklin wasn't the only one making solid contact: Romeo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive matchups.

Romeo pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Chippewa Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Romeo will host Lutheran North at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bulldogs 4, the Mustangs 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Chippewa Valley, they will welcome Utica Ford at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
