Baseball Recap: West Aurora Comes Up Short

If West Aurora was riding high fresh off their 12-0 takedown of Bolingbrook on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Blackhawks fell just short of the Oswego East Wolves by a score of 5-4 on Wednesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Blackhawks in their meetings with the Wolves: they've now lost six in a row.

Jake Niedzwiedz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, West Aurora saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nick Weisse, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

West Aurora's loss dropped their record down to 18-5. As for Oswego East, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-15.

West Aurora and Oswego East should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Blackhawks (ranked 75th) will meet Ridgewood (ranked 311th) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Oswego East will challenge Bolingbrook at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (139 vs. 360).
