Basketball Recap: Galesburg Christian Takes a Loss

Galesburg Christian played a tough contest on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 59-22 loss at the hands of the Faith Christian Falcons. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 588th, while the Falcons are ranked 217th).

Galesburg Christian's loss came despite strong showings from Maggie Mason and Jaycie Stambaugh. Mason dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 boards, while Stambaugh posted four points and eight rebounds. Mason is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games she's played.

Even though they lost, Galesburg Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

Gwen Hodson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Faith Christian, going 8 for 15 on her way to 19 points in addition to five steals and five blocks. That's the most blocks Hodson has posted since back in December of 2024. Brianna Hodson was another key player, putting up eight points and three blocks.

Galesburg Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Faith Christian, the victory was the 20th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 25-2.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Faith Christian beat Galesburg Christian by a score of 53-12 on Friday.
