Softball Game Preview: Great Bridge Wildcats vs. Cox Falcons

The Great Bridge Wildcats will face off against the Cox Falcons at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Great Bridge knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Cox likes a good challenge.

If Great Bridge beats Cox with 15 runs on Saturday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over Oscar Smith on Thursday. Considering the Wildcats have won eight matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Jensyn Koonce looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Great Bridge got a massive performance out of Adelynn Palmer, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave Palmer a new career-high. Adyson Lease was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Cox's offense. They lost 9-0 to Ocean Lakes on Thursday.

Great Bridge pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cox, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-6 record this season.

Everything went Great Bridge's way against Cox when the teams last played back in April of 2022, as Great Bridge made off with a 13-0 win. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Falcons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
