The Bountiful RedHawks will face off against the Layton Lancers at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in Bountiful's favor as the team sits on 16 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Layton has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
Bountiful's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Roy 15-0. The RedHawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 games by six runs or more this season.
Dylan Carpenter made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Bountiful let Abigail Orme and Claire Yates run wild. Orme went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Yates went 3-for-4 with four runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI Orme has posted since back in March. Ava Howe was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Bountiful was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .364 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Layton lost 17-2 to Syracuse on Tuesday.
Bountiful's win bumped their record up to 20-3. As for Layton, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-16.
Layton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bountiful has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Layton, though, as they've been averaging 10.9 hits. Given Bountiful's sizable advantage in that area, the Lancers will need to find a way to close that gap.
