Softball Recap: Lucy Beckham Takes a Loss

After flying high against Philip Simmons last Monday, Lucy Beckham came back down to earth. The Lucy Beckham Bengals lost 19-2 to the Covenant Day Lions on Tuesday. The Bengals were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the three matchups prior), but the Lions' pitchers proved too tough.

Lucy Beckham saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was GEORGIA DAVIS, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. That triple was DAVIS' first of the season. BROOKE THOMPSON was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

With the loss, Lucy Beckham broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-4. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 9.67 strikeouts in those games compared to only 3.83 in the others. As for Covenant Day, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-1-1.

Coming up, Lucy Beckham will head out to face off against Goose Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. This will be Lucy Beckham's first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Covenant Day, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 9-7 victory against Ashley Ridge on the 19th.
